| Celebrations
and Feasts
From June till September, it is possible to see and participate
in folk shows, music concerts, festivals and popular traditions.
The celebrations start with the religious feasts of:
25th June “St John the Baptist”,
patron of Castiadas. The feast takes place in the Olia Speciosa
locality
and lasts 3-4 days. Events include folk shows, games, popular
traditions, Mass and procession with horses and floats in honour
of the saint and, at the end, fireworks and concert;
15th August “Feast of the Assumption”,
This takes placein the San Pietro district and lasts about 3-4
days, with an evocative Mass and procession beside the sea, accompanied
by floats, horses and folk groups from the Sarrabus region, finishing
with a boat trip of the faithful along the beaches of Cala Sinzias,
Cala Marina and Monte Turno.
The celebration includes folk shows, games, popular traditions,
procession and, to finish, fireworks and music;
- At the end of August the wine and grape festival takes place
in the Olia Speciosa locality with the collaboration of the local
wine growers’ cooperative and tasting of traditional local
products;
- Not to be missed during July-August is the Craft and Farm Produce
exhibition, which annually celebrates the best in local arts and
manufactured goods. It offers tourists a wide variety of objects,
including baskets, wood carvings, work in gold, rugs, woven fabrics
and ceramics, not to mention a display of food and wine, where
there is the chance to taste a number of traditional dishes. All
of this to the accompaniment of dancing, music and themed entertainment.
The events take place in the former prison governor’s villa.
