A series of archaeological elements have left in the area a fine
inheritance, with nuraghi, villages, menhirs, “domus de
janas” and tombs of giants, with verifiable settlements
from the nuragic age to the medieval period.
Other discoveries have brought to light that in certain areas
of Castidas, in 1316 the “Tolostrai” reigned, a people
who usually
dwelt in the San Pietro and Monti di Villacastiadas area. The
ruins of these villages were abandoned in 1584. As protection
for these villages a system of look-out towers was built in the
XVIth century, armed with artillery and a permanent garrison,
to ward off the incursions of barbarous pirates.
