| Tombs
with corridors and “of Giants”
The hills chosen in prehistoric times as centre of the settlement
did not,
in general, exceed a height of 100m. They were located close to
running water or streams, thus guaranteeing, even in the driest
months, an adequate water supply. This megalithic culture coming
from Northern Europe probably formed the basis for the nuragic
civilisation.
The tombs with corridors and of Giants are megalithic sepulchres,
situated on the top of low-lying, eastward-facing hilly reliefs
and were found near prehistoric, prenuragic villages.
The corridor tomb is formed of a double wall-face and made up
of huge, quadrangular granite slabs placed ortostatically with
the bigger side fixed in the ground, constituting the central
burial corridor.
The tomb of the Giants is a megalithic sepulchre and is made up
of two parallel wall-faces which constitute the burial corridor.
Such wall-faces were composed of average and large-size quadrangular
ashlars, arranged in regular rows and contracting from the bottom
to the top. They were covered with stone slabs in platband form,
which determined the closure of the corridor.
Inside the tombs, after a recovery operation by warders, copper
bracelets, brooches and coins were found.
