Local Wines

With the arrival of the penal colony in the territory of Castiadas, right from the beginning of the C19th,wines of excellent quality were produced: the Cannonau, Monica and Vermentino vineyards reached over 100 hectares in extension and the production increased from year to year, to such an extent that a cellar in the Camisa district was also able to be built.
Castiadas has maintained the same quality of product, or rather it has improved it, with the introduction of new varieties, and has increased the production.

All the wines included below are produced and distributed by the wine growers’ association of Castiadas, started in 1959, which today, to satisfy demand, is available on national and international markets with excellent results, fruit of the work and professionality of all the growers in the Castiadas area, who supply the consortium with premium quality grapes.
The association today is self-sufficient, equipped with a bottling machine, which has produced a qualitative improvement with high-calibre wines appreciated by consumers, connoisseurs and independent contractors.
Furthermore, it is possible to buy excellent quality wines, from various local growers, who with great expertise manage to maintain an age-old tradition.
Among the wines from Castiadas we have:

- Cannonau di Sardegna Capo Ferrato,Cannonau di Sardegna Capo Ferrato excellent for traditional meals of roast and stewed meat and game. It has an intense ruby red colour with shades of garnet, a characteristic fragrance of ripe fruit (plums and blackberries), sometimes spicy and ethereal, full-bodied, flowery (mature roses), pleasantly dry with a lingering harmonious taste, alcohol content 13% and is served at table at around 16-18°C

- Isola dei Nuraghi “Sant’Elmo Rosso”, Isola dei Nuraghi "Sant'Elmo Rosso"excellent for traditional Sardinian dinners based on roast red meat and cheeses, it has a brilliant ruby-red colour, and intense and delicate fragrance , sometimes spicy, full-flavoured, flowery, it has a dry, slightly tannic, intense taste, a little acidic, sapid and soft with good body. Alcohol content 12.25%, served with a meal at around 16-18°C

- Isola dei Nuraghi “Sant’Elmo Rosato” ,Isola dei Nuraghi "Sant'Elmo Rosato" has the same characteristics as the St Elmo red,. It only changes the production method, since it is obtained from the white version of the same grape, i.e. in the absence of marcs, excellent for traditional Sardinian meals of roast red meat and poultry and cheese. It has a brilliant rose colour, an intense and delicate aroma, sometimes spicy and ethereal, full-flavoured, flowery, intense, dry, nicely tannic, slightly acidic, sapid and, with a good body, with alcohol content about 12.25 % and is served with a meal at around 16-18°C

- Isola dei Nuraghi “Parolto”,Isola dei Nuraghi "Parolto" obtained through a careful blending of particular red grapes such as Cannonau, Cabernet and Sauvignon. It is aged in wooden casks to bring out the bouquet and is excellent for traditional Sardinian meals of roast and stewed meat and game. It has a characteristically fruity bouquet (of plums and blackberries), sometimes spicy and ethereal, full-flavoured and flowery (mature roses) and is dry , alcoholic, nicely tannic, sapid and soft, with a good body, intense and persistent. The alcohol content is 13.5 % and it is served with a meal at around 16-18o°C.

- Vermentino di Sardegna “Praidis”Vermentino di Sardegna "Praidis", excellent for traditional Sardinian meals of seafood starters, fish and roasted shellfish, stewed meat and game. It has a straw colour with slight shades of green, a characteristically fruity bouquet (of ripe Golden Delicious apples), is flowery (acacia and citronella), a dry taste, low in alcohol, sapid, soft, and with a light body. The alcoholic content, the acidity and body are often more marked. The total percentage of alcohol is 10.5 - 11º and it is served with a meal at around 6-8oC. Other varieties expected are: medium sweet – Spumante (medium-sweet or dry).
