Life
From the highest point in the Minni Minni district, accessible
on foot, mountain bike, or preferably on a guided visit, one can
see the entire territory of Castiadas and a good part of the Villasimius
coast.
The flourishing wild animal life has found its ideal habitat here,
epitomised by the ever bigger colonies of deer and wild boar,
golden eagles, rabbits, hares, wild cats, martens, foxes, weasels,
wood pigeons and red woodpeckers, as well as many others.
Sundry springs and streams present in these mountains allow the
survival of the flora and fauna during the long periods without
rain.
The Sardinian deer is the biggest wild mammal present in our region
and according to the latest count carried out by members of the
Forestry commission, there are 700-800 specimens in the forest.
Furthermore, we must remember that the animal life in Castiadas
is still made up of pure species , in other words, over the centuries
no cross-breeding has occurred. This is demonstrated by the physical
stature of the deer, wild boar, rabbits and hares, all smaller
compared to the mainland.
