An authentic paradise: from deep waters covered with a thick lawn
of posidonia, to the emerald and turquoise surface – Castiadas
has one of the most beautiful seas in the world.
It is not only about the sea, though: as well as miles of magnificent
coastline, there is fabulous, still uncontaminated countryside,
offering many opportunities for excursions e.g. the mountain chain
of the “Seven Brothers”,”Minni Minni”
as far as the sea at Sa Callazziga. It is possible to reach these
destinations on a guided visit, on mountain bike or on foot.
- Sailing and Windsurfing
For the keen watersports enthusiast, Castiadas is the ideal place
for sailing and windsurfing. Here the “right” wind
blows.
From spring onwards, it is possible to practise these sports at
certified schools in the area, which organise courses for different
levels and also have facilities for childrens’ courses.
- Diving
Here there is an embarassment of choice. One can go diving over
lovely lawns of posidonia, hoping to discover wreckage peacefully
resting on the sea bed, or in the shallower waters of an comely
cove. Alternatively, one can search for a shoal of white bream,
or pay a visit to the protected coast of Capo Carbonara in Villasimius.
Our advice is to stick to qualified schools when practising this
sport, therefore we recommend going to local diving centres, which
organise courses for different levels with facilities for children’s
courses.
Obviously, in the centres you will have highly-qualified instructors
and examiners, authorised to award diving licences, recognised
worldwide, at the end of the course.
- Water-skiing and canoing
The area is also suitable for move active sports such as water-skiing,
but it is possible to recharge one’s batteries, get into
shape and enjoy oneself with exciting challenges like canoing.
- Mountain-biiking
To get closer to nature, we recommend mountain-bike excursions.
There are various paths, all of great naturalistic interest, like
the Minni Minni forest, S’acqua Callenti, an oasis of animal
life, or near the coasts.
- Trekking and Excursions
The vast natural
haven of Castiadas represents a great attraction for trekkers,
with a variety of options for hiking and guided visits in off-road
vehicles.
Among the most suggestive routes are the peaks of Minni Minni,
various archaeological sites, the ancient forests and the animal
sanctuaries where it is possible to encounter a number of protected
species, including the Sardinian deer.
